Critical Hit: Assholes With Grammar

We review the people and places around us and "review" them. We're mean, sarcastic, and blunt. Take what we say with a grain of salt - though know that we've said it for a reason. Can't deal with it? Unfollow. -- Miso, Rui, Shin, and Kuro-pin

Milanoo(.com) ›

Please note: This is a review for only the Cosplay/costume section of this retailer.

Milanoo(.com) - Chinese Wholesale Fashion Apparel

When you Google Search the keywords “buy+japanese+cosplay”, the second link that pops up is this website. Upon closer inspection, the quick-read description is noted to have a short list of popular anime/manga titles, making it easy to see that they have a selection of what you’re probably looking for.

On to the Milanoo site then. The categories are easy enough to sort through, and a decent selection of well-known manga/anime is to be found. It’s disappointing to see that there aren’t hundreds of them to peruse, but then again, this is only the cosplaying section of an Asian fashion site. We shouldn’t be expecting that kind of full-blown nerdery.

The quality of the costumes available vary with the actual manufacturer. Milanoo stocks and ships whatever you put into your cart after you order it, and doesn’t have its own brand name. Some costumes are terribly fit, others can be tailored to the exact measurements you send to them with your order. The fabrics tend to be of mid to low quality, high quality if you’re able to discern those rare pieces through pictures alone what it should be according to what it looks like (some pictures contain closeups, very detailed descriptions, and high-quality zoom, others don’t).

Here’s the biased part. In my personal experience, I was pricing and piecing together a cosplay outfit from several different websites, and found the cheapest to second-cheapest pieces on Milanoo. Of course, I shopped around just to be sure that I was getting quality pieces and that it wouldn’t cost a cent more than what it had to be. I spent roughly eight bucks (USD) on two items, set to ship at the same time and arrive about a week later in the mail. Unfortunately, their sense of timing was different than mine, and when I went to pick it up, they had already asked for it to be shipped back to the manufacturer because I was ‘late’. Now hold on. I read the entire shipping policy and not once did I see a disclaimer (in English, anyway) that spoke of having the package returned if I didn’t get it on time. In addition to that, I was on time (at least, according to my calendar and calculations)! I contacted customer support, and requested to have the package resent. Because of the time difference, every time I checked my mail, I received a warning that my case would be closed if I didn’t reply within the next 12 hours or so. Also, I had to word out every single step I took, with a new step each email, as the CSR didn’t have the sense in her head to answer all of my questions in the same letter. A month later, I got my package. By then, I’d already picked up an entirely new costume, and decided that the cosplay whose parts I was waiting on would have to wait for another occasion.

IDK about you, but as much as I can understand how there will be some rough areas in business transactions where there is a language barrier, business is still business. My money may not be worth what theirs is, having me return as a customer may not be as important as other people, but hot damn could I tell that through the standard “please send another $12 for reshipping”, they didn’t give a crooked sh*t about the fact that this could have been avoided had they been able to give all details up front, including those about how all of their additional fees work.

I refuse to allow someone else to make a mistake that I pay for. Fcking Asians got my money again.*

*I have the perfect right to say that. I’m Asian. I’d con people out of their money just to hold on to mine, too. I GUESS.

Also, enter Kuro-pin, our cinematography commentator (as Shin is to cooking, amongst other things).

Enter Shin, our culinary critic (no seriously, Shin is a chef). Shin will be reviewing our restaurant raves and takedowns, among other things.

Been waiting for Miso to write something himself rather than just edit and review what I post. Lol. Soon, folks, soon. - Rui
